Love and Relationship
“Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” NLT
Can a relationship exist without love? Can we exist without the love of God? The best place to start is with the definition of love. The dictionary defines love as: profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person, a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection and/or sexual passion or desire
When I review this definition of love, I do not see a way that a relationship can survive without love. One of the things in this list must be present for it to be a true relationship.
So, can our love of other things or people come between our relationship with God? Most people answer no to this very quickly, but then upon more reflection realize that anything that we put before our relationship with God can do this. You are thinking with indignation this is not true for me! Let’s look at a few examples. You have a demanding job that most of the time require you to miss Church, Bible Study and/or Church events. What are you putting before God here? Bingo, your job is more important than God’s will that you commune with the body of believers. You have 3 siblings and oversee settling your parent’s estate. You believe that since you did most of the care of this that you deserve a larger share of the estate even though the wills say that everything is split equally between you and your siblings. You make sure that you get what you want and more because you deserve it. What are you putting before God here? Yes, you believe that your way is the most important despite your parent’s wishes and what is morally right. So. your way and will are in the way of your relationship with God. I could go on and on with examples, but by now I know that you see my point. Anything that you put ahead of God ways will interfere with your relationship with God
Dear friend, whatever God has recalled with this, please repent. Make it right. God will help you. You must take the first step and realize your mistake.
2 John 1:9
Anyone who wanders away from this teaching has no relationship with God. But anyone who remains in the teaching of Christ has a relationship with both the Father and the Son. NLT
