Child of God

1 John 5:1

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God.  And everyone who loves the Father loves His children, too.  NLT

My Dad has been in heaven almost 14 years.  And yes, I miss him very much.  You see I knew that I could count on Dad if I needed anything.  He would listen, advise me and help if I asked.  I have wished for him many times in these years.  The good news is that my heavenly Father, God has been very good to me during these years.  I have learned to rely on God just as I did my Dad.  This is what being a child of God means and so much more!

The Lord is with me at all times.  He sends His angels before me and protects me.  Jesus always listens to me and often speaks to me through His Word, other people or in my spirit.  It is a good relationship that I treasure.

Many people ask me how this works.  It is hard to explain because it is an individual relationship for each of us.  The Lord will reach you in a manner that you will receive.  One unusual way that He speaks to me is through movies and books.  No, not just Christian materials.  It can be any type because my God created everything!

The best part of being a child of God is how He loves us.  When I am down or had a bad day, I can crawl into His lap and He will hold and comfort me.  He sends me encouragement through His Word and other people.  He reminds me of His Truth when I am wronged.  Thank you Lord for loving me!  I love you.

Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ?  Then you can have this relationship with Him.  Seek it and you will find it.  Ask and it will be given to you.

Of course, when we are children of God, He does discipline us.  We make mistakes.  Sometimes over and over, we do the same thing.  Being a good Father, God will correct us.  Discipline is a good thing that many parents today are not using to raise their kids.

The following verse encourages us as to why:

Hebrews 12:7

As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as His own children.  Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by it Father?  NLT
