Death of Christ

John 8:51

Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he will never see death.  NASB

Everywhere I turn these days, I see people dying.  My Mother, Uncle Jimmy and my Great-Nephew Troy are all on hospice care.  It is maybe a bit easier to under the ones in their 80s and 90s, but the 18 year old!  I also have friends fighting ALS, MS and Cancer that are middle aged.

This passage says that we can never see death if we keep God’s Word.  Do you believe this?  Have you kept His Word?  Is it possible to keep His Word in all things?

This looks like heavy stuff.  It is really very simple.  Do you believe that Jesus is the son of God?  If you have accepted Him as your savior and try to follow His Word in all things, then you will not see death.  How can this be you ask?  We all will die!  Yes, we will leave this earth and our physical bodies one day unless we are here when Christ returns, but that is another subject entirely.  When we die knowing the Lord, we will spend eternity with Him in a new body and with those who have gone before us.

It is difficult for those of us left behind to see a loved one die.  It is not the end.  We will see them again.  I have a growing list of people who have died, that I look forward to seeing again.  My Mother has not wanted to be here since my Father died in 2002, but God is in control.  She will go when God decides and not a moment before.  This is the way that it works.

Last week, we lost a family member and friend, Sheri Miller Paschall.  She was only 51 years old and had fought a long fight with cancer.  She won.  Sheri is with our Lord in a new body that is perfect!

Jesus overcame death and gave us life.  The following verse show His sacrifice that we may have life eternally:

Philippians 2:8

Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.   NASB
