Friends

Proverbs 17:17

A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity. NASB

I have found this to be very true in my life.  The people that I can count on are my friends.  And yes many of the struggles that I have seen and will see are due to my brothers, siblings.

Why are siblings so different?  How can the behavior of sibling be so varied when they came from the same parents and environment?  Many people believe that birth order has a lot to do with it.  Just yesterday I saw the following posted on Facebook, “The oldest makes the rules.  The rules were made for the middle children.  The rules do not apply to the youngest.”  I laughed and after thinking about it, this is very true.  Which am I you ask?  Of course, I am a middle child.  They had to have the rules to control me.  Lol

The real answer to these questions is that we all have free will.  I choose who I am and what I do.  My actions speak way louder than my words.  Yes there is competition between siblings, but each one chooses the person that they become.

I also know that how each child was treated by the parents really influences this.  There was favoritism in my family.  My kids believe that I am anal about everything being equal between them.  I do this because I never want either of them to think that I love one over the other.  If I do something different, I am very clear as to why with them.

How do you be a good friend?  I think that it is simple.  Treat others the way that you want to be treated.  When you commit to doing something, do it or if you can’t let them know why and try to make it right.  The real answer is to love your friend as Christ loves you.  He gave His life that we might have salvation.

The following verse sums it up well:

John 15:13

Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.  NASB
