Giving and Judging

Luke 6:38

Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full-pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over and poured into your lap. The amount that you give will determine the amount you get back. NLT

It is a new year.  We always assess how we did in the past year and strive to do better this year.  How much did you give to others last year?  I am not just taking about money.  Your time is important as well as friendship.  Did you help others or just yourself last year?  Do you wonder why nothing seems to go your way?

I love to give.  Much of last year I did not have the money to give, but I gave my time and friendship.  Really, I think that people appreciate the last two more than money.  In December, one of my friend’s Mother died.  I took a complete meal the night before the services.  The entire family went on and on about it.  You see I was raised in the South.  This is what you do when someone dies.  It was an automatic for me, but unusual for the people who live in Southern Illinois.  We need to pass these traditions down to our children.  I watched my Mother dozens of times do this.  So I did it.  It is a gift that is sincerely appreciated.

We have become a selfish society.  Only looking out for ourselves.  We hold all that we have including our hurt very close and refuse to give even forgiveness.

When someone is different or looks a certain way, we sometimes judge them bad.  When someone wrongs us, we refuse to forgive them like it will hurt them for us not to forgive.  In reality, it hurts us more not to forgive because it turns into bitterness and eventually turns on our bodies in sickness.

My message is simple.  We must give to others.  We must forgive others.  We must leave all judgement to God.

This verse in Jesus’s own words supports this:

Luke 6:37

Do not judge others and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others or it will all come back against you. Forgive other and you will be forgiven.  NLT
