good rotten fruit

Matthew 7:17-18
So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. NASB

Do you ever look at your life and shake your head in confusion? Do you see “good Christian people” doing bad things to others and getting away with it? I am going through this at this time and the previous verses give us clarity and peace.

I have spent by entire life making excuses for members of my family. They are good people. They hold high offices in the Church. They just don’t like me. I have worked hard in the last couple of decades to be the right kind of Christian woman. These family members have gotten worse as I have grown closer to the Lord. Out of respect for my Mother, I held my silence on issues. No longer.

These verses are very clear as to what type of fruit we are to produce. As Christians, we should be showing love, compassion, mercy, respect and many other good things in our life’s fruit. If only rotten, lying, thieving things are happening, we know the problem.

On the other side of this, I am responsible for my attitude and words towards the rotten fruit. God has released me. I am free! When asked, I am now free to speak the truth. I will no longer hold my tongue when asked. I give them to the Lord every day. My prayer is that they will turn from these evils ways and get in line with God’s will for them.

If I have to forgive every minute of every day, then I do it. If I can’t do anything to help those negatively affected by the evil, then I give it to the Lord. My God is big enough and strong enough to right the wrong. He will prevail in all things. I praise Him for His truth in my life!

Please, my friends, do not beat yourself up as I did any longer for those who are mean to you. Forgive them. Give them to the Lord. Pray for them daily. Today, our Pastor reminded us that we are to be agents of Hope and Love even to those who hurt us. We have to be different so they can see the truth of God.

The following verse seals this topic for us:
Matthew 7:20
So then, you will know them by their fruits. NASB
