Love and Serve One Another

Galatians 5:13Serve one another in Love

For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.  NASB

As I viewed the anniversary riots and shooting in Ferguson MO, I was reminded of this verse.  Yes, we have the freedom to protest in this wonderful country, but when it leads to destruction and someone getting shot we have taken that freedom too far.  How can we love and serve one another if we are divided and angry?

Once that line is crossed into a riot and people getting hurt, the protest has become wrong.  When there are organizations who sole purpose is to cause trouble for others, then the freedom has become sin as well.

It is fine to disagree, but it must be done peacefully and positively.  Good communication to come to positive change is what this process was created for.  It was not created to stop events, hurt police and destroy property.  This things are sin and of the flesh.

We must be aware that only God’s love can change our hearts in these situations.  Even in more one on one disagreements, the key is to fully communicate and come together for change that is a win-win for everyone involved.

This country was founded on these principles.  In God we trust is another one that is being eliminated as much as possible.  If God is removed from or culture, then look out for much more trouble like the ones that have occurred.

What can we do for our nation?  First, we must pray for America, our leaders (Yes even the ones that you do not like!), our family and our friends.  We must love our enemies just as we love those close to us.  We must be different than everyone else by the love of God that they see at work in our lives. Only by making better choices to love and serve everyone can we make a difference in our culture.

The chapter goes on to tell us more:

Galatians 5:14

For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, “You shall LOVE your neighbor as yourself.”  NASB
