The Word

Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received His message from us, you didn’t think of our words as merely human ideas.  You accepted what we said as the very Word of God-which. Of course, it is.  And this Word continues to work in you who believe.

1 Thessalonians 1:13 NLT

Do you know people who claim to be Christians, but do not show that the Word and ways of God is in their life?  Do they do bad, hurtful things that are not of God?

These people can be friends, church people or family.  You have a choice in your reactions to their behavior.  You can turn from God.  You can be angry and bitter.

Of course, neither of these are the correct responses.  First, you have to forgive them.  Even if you have to do this every minute of every day, you forgive them.  Now, you have another choice to make.  Do you trust them?  Trust is earned.  The best way to regain trust is for them to realize that they were wrong and say so.  Then you tell them how is impacted you and your move forward to give them a chance to do better.  This is a best outcome that can happen and I pray that you get this one.

The more normal outcome is that they either do not care about what they have done or they are clueless about the fact that they did anything wrong.  I am not sure which is worse.  Both hurt and lead to broken relationships.  For your part, you still have to forgive them.  Then you have to decide if approaching them in love could lead to repentance and growth for them.  Only God can tell you if you are to take this step.  You may be thinking that Matthew 18 says we are to go to them in private and do this.  Yes that is right, but if the person will not be moved by this and inflict more hurt and damage to you, then God through the Holy Spirit will show you if you are to take this step.

God’s Word is true and straight.  He can show you through it and prayer the way for you.  His love can heal your heart, allow you to forgive and move on in your life.  Seek Him and know that we will live with Him one day:

I heard a loud shout from the throne, “Look, God’s home is now among His people!  He will live with them and they will be His people.  God Himself will be with them.”

Revelations 21:3 NLT
