Thief

John 10:10

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. NLT

Yes, these are the words of Jesus Christ.  The thief that He is referring to here is the devil.

Have you ever been stolen from?  By someone that you love and trusted?  It hurts.  It is a betrayal that is very painful.  Why did they do it?  I would never take anything from them.  The real enemy is evil itself.  We must forgive the one that did it and understand that our battle is with the evil in this world and not them.  This is a very hard concept to live.

When I say forgive them that does not mean to trust them again.  A former pastor of mine puts it this way, “Forgiveness is required.  Trust is earned.”  The real issue is to make sure that they have repented and changed.  Often people who steal are also liars.  So, it requires fact checking and analysis on everything that is said and done to restore trust.  In my experience, the one who stole is offended by this.  That is a true sign of danger.  Do not trust them because they accuse you of being too hard on them or not trusting them.  This is deflection from them back to you.  Do not buy in to their manipulation.  They will get you again.

Forgiveness of this is very hard.  It may require some time to keep doing it and giving it to God.  Even if it takes weeks or months, keep at it.  God will heal you and how you to way to handle the situation in your life.  Do not lose your faith and trust in God because of evil hitting you in this way.  It will make you stronger in the Lord.

Please keep in mind that the one who stole has the problem and needs to change like the following verse states:

Ephesians 4:28

If you are a thief, quit stealing.  Instead, use your hand for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need.  NLT
